“amendment”一词的两种主要意思
Amendment一词有两个主要意思: 一是(宪法、制定法等的)修正案或补充条款,二是(宪法、制定法等的)修订(程序)。

accuse常出现在刑事司法领域,表“指控、控告”,charge也被用来表示这一意思,二者在法律英语翻译中出现频率较高。
acquit及其名词形式acquittal在法律英语中十分常见,它在在刑法中表示“宣告无罪”或“无罪释放”;在民法中,表示“免除(义务、责任)”,即release or discharge as from an obligation,responsibility etc.。
act of God通常译为“天灾、不可抗力”,在法律翻译中,还可能用到本属法语的Force Majeure,以及本属拉丁语的vismajor,它们通常也被译为“不可抗力”。还有一个英语单词contingency,本来指“突发事件、意外事件”,但在实践中也常与不可抗力条款混用。
通常情况下,act是指“法案”或直接称为“法”,是英美法系国家命名制定法的一种称谓。但是当act作为omission的反义词时,它的意思就与action类似,意为“作为”,即积极的行为;omission则相反,意为“不作为”,即消极的行为。
